Fernão d'Évora

FERNÃO D’ ÉVORA

This Portuguese architect was master builder in charge of the construction of the Monastery of Batalha between 1448 and 1477, the probable date of his death.

He was the nephew of Martim Vasques, with whom he also collaborated.

We know little about his work. As master builder he was in charge practically throughout the rein of King Afonso V.

At the Monastery of Batalha, the completion of certain architectural features where construction was already under way, as well as the building of a new cloister, the so-called Cloister of Afonso V, are attributed to him.
